KANA FAMLY AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION

The Association is gender sensitive, non-profit making, non-political and non-discriminatory of religion or race. In its operation gets inspired by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church values, and enhances program/projects towards a society of all ages.

Mission

The Association promotes participatory holistic and sustainable development programs to meet the basic needs of and effecting positive behavioral change among significant number of targeted beneficiaries and stakeholders.

Vision

Kana envisions at making positive difference in situation, behavior and livelihood conditions of needy elderly, women, youth and children within the context of their families and respective communities

Objectives

• To promote improved communal neighborhoods awareness that insures the rights of the child, women, Youth and elderly.
• To achieve increased enrollment rate of disadvantaged school aged children of targeted communities particularly girls.
• To enhance improved support services to women headed and very needy families leading to build the targets self- confidence, skill, access to opportunities and control over resources.
• To advocate for planned and centralized alms giving, leading to eradicate beggary and promote social security for all.
• To promote abilities of needy families through:- Youth training and entrepreneurial capacity building, CBOs' led, community, government and environmental protection and development programs.

Projects

Awareness creation: - Kana will facilitate religious bodies, which practice feeding beggars and the needy to reduce poverty and eradicate beggary. Awareness creation and participatory planning workshop for concerned Stakeholders of Addis Ababa City and Nazareth town will be conducted for program integration, collaboration, popular participation, resource mobilization, program sustainability and equity.
The whole program will be in line with Ethiopia Sustainable Development and poverty reduction Strategy.

It needs the collaboration of all [in terms of financial, material and expertise,] your organization and you in particular. This project will cost about 224, 510 Birr.

Addis Ababa city 7 Awareness creation workshops 120890, and 2 participatory planning workshops 34540

Nazareth town 3 awareness creation workshops 51810, and one participatory planning workshop 17270

Community based program:- Kana has gone through the preparatory phase of a community based program and signed a tri-partite agreement with Social and Non- Governmental Organizations Affairs office and Addis Ababa City Health Bureau for a there year project worth birr 684,885.
Beneficiaries of the project are:- 50 elderly, 30 women, 30 youth, 30 children and 30 HIV-AIDS victims.
Components of project are:-
Geriatric health care 191,600, saving and credit 175849, Education and training 45200, Advocacy and awareness creation 49500, Capacity building 110155, HIV-AIDS prevention and control 4900. The overhead cost is less that 10%63581.

Fund will be solicited:- Through sponsorship scheme, From funding agencies or Through fundraising programs designed in project.

Basic Education Support:- The Association's Two years first project worth Birr 460, 020 whose main purpose was to enhance interactive teaching and learning process of Kamashi zone of Benshangul gumuz Regional state has been suspended due to lack of financial resources. Preparation, publication and provision of Teachers' Training Manual with necessary stationary worth Birr 8500 has only been achieved.
Beneficiaries of the project were: -
120 teachers, 145 community leaders, 1000 needy girls and boys and ten cluster centers.

Sector

The Association has Education and Training, Health and Sanitation with HIV-AIDS prevention and control component, Micro- employment, water, environmental protection and development, employment generation, water, environmental protection and development, infrastructure improvement focusing on Health, Education and Traini9ng, Awareness creation leading to self- mobilization and development action,and capacity building as program areas.

In its operation the Association get inspired by Ethiopian Orthodox Christian Values, Biblical contexts, UN Principles, National constitution and policies hiving emphasis to the National poverty reduction strategy. With fear of God sense of humanity, fraternity and equality, integrity, sharing with equity, being transparent, honest, hard work, dedicated and committed, zealous, innovative and active.
